Twenty years ago today, incumbent Republican President George Herbert Walker Bush and then-Democratic challenger/former Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton sparred over issues of character in a televised debate. Bush laid into Clinton over Vietnam War protests, and Clinton laid into Bush for attacking his patriotism.
Both men seem to have forgotten that independent challenger and Texas billionaire Ross Perot was also on the stage with them, as neither commented on Perot’s character.
